Evolving jewellery design history at Sumona Couture
Sumona Couture was launched in December 2013 by designer Sumona Parekh. She has an evolving history in the world of jewellery design which started with gold and now has branched into silver as well. The retail high-end precious jewellery brand GAJA Heritage was the brainchild of Mrs Parekh. Today, Sumona Couture already has its own special contemporary Indian look in luxury prêt clothing line as well as in a silver jewellery line for men and women.
With a background in fine jewellery, as the inspiration of Gaja Heritage in 2010, Sumona Parekh carries forward the strict quality policies and exquisite handcraft traditions in her silver line. Her innate sensibility and discerning eye stem from the heirloom Bengali jewellery in her family – pieces that have been passed down generations, which are timelessly precious. Her artistic abilities, business acumen and travels have guided her study of the global jewellery markets, and her design aesthetic appeals to a varied audience that understands and appreciates quality and individuality in design.
Sumona Silver, the branded 18 carat silver line, has beautiful filigree and plate work with semi-precious certified stones. This silver line has intricately worked chandbalis, jhumkas and chokers inspired by the old Bengal gharanas which are made for women and silver cufflinks and sherwani buttons for men. Sumona Couture prides itself on being a design house that manufactures a silver jewellery line for men and women. The silver is pure 18 carat silver which has our own branding stamp and all our semi-precious stones are certified after careful inspection by geological institutions.
