The legalization of artisanal diamond mining is the path indicated by the provincial director of Geology and Mining and Industry, Gildo Massua, to artisanal operators of the sector, in eastern Lunda Sul province, Angola. The measure aims to allow artisanal diamond mining operators to make their business legally.
According to Gildo Massua, who was speaking in Saurimo, obtaining the mining license is a requirement in the Mining Code, a document that rules the sector's activity in the country. Still on the mining password said that this is a license that allows nationals to exercise legally the exploitation of artisanal diamonds in areas indicated by the institution.
The Angolan official also said that the initiative is aimed to stop the illegal mining of this resource and combat illegal foreigners in the country who are engaged in this practice.
