The second edition of Mineral, Gem & Fossil Asia organised by UBM Asia opened on June 23at the Convention Hall of the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The Fair welcomes traders, media, private collectors, the general public, students, and families who want to source or learn about the wonderful world of minerals, gems and fossils. The four-day fair combines trading, learning and fun family activities.
Exhibitors come from Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Kenya, Madagascar, Mexico, Myanmar, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, South Africa, Uruguay and the United States. Exhibits include a wide variety of rough gemstones and polished stones, fossils, art pieces and rare mineral specimens. The fair serves as an opportunity for participants to do business, network and gather the latest market intelligence.
Ms Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs, UBM Asia said: "The fair offers the general public a rare opportunity to see up close a wide variety of rare mineral specimens and invaluable fossils from around the world. Industry experts will host seminars that will cover interesting topics such as mineral collecting. Workshops by the Stephen Hui Geological Museum of University of Hong Kong offer students a special programme to entice tomorrow’s consumers and into learning more about minerals and possibly become mineral collectors themselves. ”
“We hope to attract the new generation into becoming mineral collectors through these special events at the fair. It would certainly benefit the industry,” she continued.
Key Fair attractions are 1: 150-Million-Year-Old fossils unearthed from the Upper Jurassic Solnhofen Limestone 2: Renowned suppliers of gemstones and mineral specimens return to the “Treasures World” zone. They include Kristalle, Granada Gallery, The Collector’s Edge, Henn GmbH & 3: Special Fossil display zone to showcase invaluable fossils, including Moonfish!
