Recently Ahmed Bin Sulayem, KP Chair 2016 officially informed the KP Players that the CAR may undertake diamonds shipment from Berberati.He said, ‘Following the Administrative Decision and Annex on Resumption of Exports from Central African Republic (CAR), Luanda July 2015, and the Operational Framework as well as the TORs which guide the tasks of the CAR Monitoring Team, the CAR MT has confirmed that It has examined the proposed export from the Compliant Zone of Berberati for a shipment of 3,702,89 cts (rough diamonds 2576.09 cts, carbon 1126.80 cts) and has confirmed that it may be exported.’
During the recently held KP Intersessional, Dubai, Ahmed Bin Sulayem had been expressed his efforts. “Now, as a result, a process has begun and I am optimistic we will see the country re-admitted to full KP membership during my term as KP chair.” At the same time in his concluding note he had referred CAR too.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem said, “Big progress in unblocking a logjam that has prevented another diamond producer - the Central African Republic -from benefitting from the wealth of its natural resources.” CAR had been unable to export stones since 2013, due to serious security concerns in some parts of the country. He offered the services of the KP chair as a mediator between the CAR government and the main exporter.
